Overview

Job Summary:

A Staff Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting functions including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and ledgers, and account and bank reconciliations. Additional duties include assisting with monthly closings, account analysis, and supporting the senior accountant in carrying out the responsibilities of the accounting department.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports in compliance with official guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Accounts payable processing in accordance with the procedure established by management.
  • Prepare account reconciliations (cash, liabilities, fixed assets, payroll accruals) and supporting sub-ledgers.
  • Establish records of accounts and input entries into the proper accounts.
  • Review invoices to ensure accuracy, validity, and appropriate approvals.
  • Maintain and update the invoice register for paid invoices.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist in preparation of summary payments reports, and reports that may be requested by company management.
  • Document and ensure proper keeping of financial records, making use of current technologies.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets, forecasting and monthly closure procedures.
  • Inspect account books and accounting systems to keep up to date.
  • Make best practice recommendations to management.
  • Improve business efficiency where money is concerned.
  • Prepare forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel.
  • Comply and assist with all regulatory filing and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and subcontractors, keeping them informed of paperwork requirements and payment status.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
  • CPA designation not required.
  • 2-3 years of construction accounting experience preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes including budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.
  • Proficient with Office 365.
  • Firm understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Find potential issues ahead of time and be able to problem solve.
  • Effectively work under pressure and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Display a willingness to adapt, learn and grow, according to the needs of the company.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
